The Hocking Hills Tourism Association (HHTA) will be launching the first Hocking Hills GeoTrail on Friday, January 18th. If you’re not familiar with Geocaching, it is similar to an outdoor treasure hunt. Hidden treasures are placed in containers, which are hidden in locations in certain areas, sometimes located in woods or other areas less traveled. Geocaches are currently placed in over 200 countries around the world and on all seven continents. Players try to locate items (caches) using GPS and smartphones, then share their experiences online. The Hocking Hills Adventure GeoTrail will have ten caches located at ten different locations throughout the Hocking Hills. If you don’t have a GPS or smartphone, visitors can borrow a GPS device from the tourism association, which has all ten coordinates pre-loaded.
